How to Perform Pushup Exercises

Pushup is one of the most common exercises done at home. It is a great exercise for the whole body as it involves the muscles in the chest, triceps, shoulders, back, abs and the legs. You do not need any equipment in performing a pushup exercise, though some forms of pushup exercises require you to use a ball, a chair, or a table. In performing pushup exercises, you need to keep in mind a few important things.

1.            Position yourself by placing your hand on the floor slightly wider than your shoulders.

2.            Keep a perfect balance on your toes and hands by rising up onto your toes.

3.            Make sure to maintain a straight body posture. Do not arch your back or sag the middle part of your body.

4.            Keep your feet close together or a little bit wider depending on how comfortable you are with it.

5.            Pull your belly button towards your spine before you start to push up. This will contract your abs and tighten your core. Maintain a tight core all throughout the pushup workout.

6.            Bend your elbows and lower yourself slowly until your elbows are at a 90 degrees angle with the floor. Inhale as you do this.

7.            Exhale when pushing back to the start position. Try not to lock the elbows and bend them slightly, instead.

8.            Repeat for as many times as you like, keeping in mind not to stress your body too much.

Pushup exercises may come difficult to women but men and women alike benefit from these exercises. They greatly improve blood circulation in the body and even make the heart healthy, as they are considered a cardio exercise. The perfect pushup is not determined on how many times you push up; rather, it is through attaining the most from a pushup exercise by following the right procedure.
